KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UCLA junior center back Michael Amick has been named to the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, it was announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Amick is one of 30 men and 28 women from Division I soccer programs to be named to their respective watch lists.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Amick, a third team NSCAA All-American last season, is one of 13 players on the watch list who received NSCAA All-American nods in 2014. The team captain and first team All-Pac-12 honoree started all 24 games for UCLA last season, helping the team reach the NCAA College Cup Final. Amick led all Bruin field players in minutes logged (2,287) and contributed to each of the team's eight shutouts.
Last season, Leo Stolz was named the winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy, becoming the third UCLA player to earn National Player of the Year and first since the MAC Player of the Year award and the Hermann Trophy merged in 2002. The Bruins' other past winners were Sasha Victorine who won the MAC Player of the Year award in 1999 and Brad Friedel who won the Hermann Trophy in 1992.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are current NSCAA College Services members will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top-15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.
From that pool of 30 men and 28 women, six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the award, with the winners being announced in January.
