
Bruins Downed By BYU

The fourth-ranked men's volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 setback in the MPSF opener played at BYU on Friday night. Scores of the match were 25-12, 25-17, 25-17. The win marked BYU's 27th straight victory at home and was played before over 4,000 fans.
Mitch Stahl led UCLA with six kills while hitting .667. The sophomore added a couple of aces and three blocks. Freshman Jake Arnitz totaled seven kills and four digs, but managed only a .125 hitting percentage. Freshman J.T. Hatch gave the Bruins a bit of a lift off the bench in set three, recording four kills and two digs.
The Bruins went down 1-6 in set one and 9-21 before falling 12-25. Set two was more close through the mid-point with UCLA trailing 10-12, 12-16 before going down 17-25. The Bruins fell behind 2-7 in set three and were down 12-18 before dropping a 17-25 decision. The Cougars hit .400 as a team. UCLA misfired on 17 serves and hit .139 as a team.
The Bruins, now 3-1 and 0-1 in the MPSF, will square off against BYU once more on Saturday night. The match will be televised live on BYU tv beginning at 6 p.m. PT
