Top-Ranked Bruins Dispatch of Kansas State, 4-0

As usual, the Bruins were dominant in doubles, quickly securing the point with victories at court Nos. 3 and 1. After freshman Terri Fleming and senior Chanelle Van Nguyen cruised to a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot, Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady clinched the point at court No. 1 where they downed Sara Castellano and Palma Juhasz, 6-2.
UCLA (2-0) jumped out to early leads in singles at all six courts, eventually going ahead 2-0 in the match when Fleming lost just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Livia Cirnu at court No. 4. Another dominating performance, this time by Kelly Shaffer at court No. 6, quickly put the Bruins on the brink of victory with a 3-0 lead.
Junior Kyle McPhillips, who along with partner Catherine Harrison was not able to finish quick enough in doubles to get in the win column, got the clinching victory in singles, as she downed Maria Panaite, 6-0, 6-1 to give the Bruins the 4-0 win.
UCLA was leading Kansas State (2-1) at the remaining three courts when play was suspended, as Brady (court No. 1), Van Nguyen (court No. 2) and Kristin Wiley (court No. 5) were all up a set and leading in the second set at their respective courts.
Next up for UCLA is a home match against Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
The USTA/ITA National Team Indoors take place Feb. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va.
