Game Notes: UCLA 40, K-State 35 - Friday, Jan. 2 (San Antonio, Texas)
January 03, 2015 | Football
- With the win in the Alamo Bowl this evening, UCLA has matched the school mark for wins in a season and become the ninth Bruin team to win as many as 10 games in a season. UCLA, 10-3 in 2014, had posted 10 wins in 2013 (10-3), 2005 (10-2), 1998 (10-2), 1997 (10-2), 1988 (10-2), 1987 (10-2), 1982 (10-1-1), 1946 (10-1).
- The 10-win season makes this the first back-to-back 10 wins seasons for the Bruin program since 1997 and 1998.
- UCLA has now won 10 straight games away from the Rose Bowl (a school-best 7-0 this season). The last time it had a streak of as many as 10 straight wins away from home was when it captured a school-best 10 straight during 1997-98. It went unbeaten in 12 straight games (10-0-2) away from home in a series of contests in 1974-76, but never won more than six in a row.
- Linebacker Eric Kendricks improved his school record tackle total to 481. He also recorded a career-high for tackles for loss in a game (3). He established a new school record with his 11th double-digit tackle game this season. It was his 25th career double-digit tackle performance, which is second on the school list behind Don Rogers (1980-83), who had 26. Kendricks finished the season with 149 tackles, which is fourth on the school single-season list.
- QB Brett Hundley improved his school record totals in touchdown passes to 75 and total offense to 11,713 yards.
- Kansas State is the 10th bowl eligible team UCLA has faced this season, which is tied for the second-highest total in the nation this season. The Bruins have posted a 7-3 record in those games.
- UCLA, with its win over Kansas State this evening, now has a bowl record of 16-17-1.
- Ka'imi Fairbairn has moved into fifth place on the all-time school career scoring list with 306 points. Fairbairn moved past Bjorn Merten's (1993-96) total of 301 in today's game.
- The 31 first-half points scored by the Bruins matched their best effort of the season at Washington.
- Receiver Jordan Payton has caught a pass in a team-best 16 straight games. With his four catches this evening, Payton moved up to sixth, with a total of 67, on the school's all-time single season receptions list.
- QB Brett Hundley has thrown for and/or run for a touchdown in 39 of his 40 career games. The only game he did not was earlier this season, in Arlington, against Texas in which he was injured and played only in the first quarter.
- Running back Paul Perkins has now rushed for 100 yards in six games this season. He registered a new career-high of 194 yards rushing this evening, surpassing his previous best of 190 set earlier this season against Oregon. Tonight, he moved past Wendell Tyler (1,388-1975), Freeman McNeil (1,396-1979), Gaston Green (1,405-1986) and Karim Abdul-Jabbar (1,571) and into second-place on the school's all-time single-season rushing list. Perkins' season total of 1,575 yards ranks second on the all-time school list behind only Johnathan Franklin (1,734 in 2012).
- UCLA has now recorded its third win this season over teams ranked in the AP top 15 at the time of the game, which is the most by the program since it defeated four such teams in 1952 --- previous 2014 wins were at #15 Arizona State and vs. #14 Arizona. In the 1952 season, the Bruins posted wins over #9 TCU, #13 Stanford, at #10 Wisconsin and at #11 California.
- Jaleel Wadood finished with 59 tackles this season, which is tied for fourth on the all-time school season tackle list for true freshmen.
- UCLA has now played a game in the state of Texas in six straight calendar years: 2015 – Alamo Bowl, 2014 – win in Arlington, Texas vs. Texas, 2013 – win in El Paso, Texas Sun Bowl vs. Virginia Tech, 2012 – win in Houston, Texas at Rice, 2011 loss at U. of Houston, 2010 win at U. of Texas.
