SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- No. 19 UCLA (7-2) opened up its three-game road swing with a 109-76 victory at Sacramento State (2-6) on Friday night at The Nest.

Senior guard Nirra Fields led all scorers with 22 points, her second consecutive 20-point effort and added seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Monique Billings tied her career-high with 20 points and added seven rebounds as well.

UCLA got out to an early 4-0 lead but Sacramento State scored five in a row to take a 5-4 lead on a three-pointer by Taylor Brown. But the Bruins reeled off 18 straight points to take a 22-5 lead, holding the Hornets scoreless for over five minutes. UCLA would never trail again. The Bruins led 28-16 at the end of the first period.

Sacramento State battled the Bruins even in the second quarter (25-25) but UCLA maintained the 12-point lead (53-41) at the break. UCLA shot 61.1 percent (22-for-36) from the field in the first half while the Hornets shot 33.3 percent (16-for-48), which included going 8-for-28 from three-point range in the first half.

The Bruins did a much better job of containing the Hornets' three-point attempts in the third quarter as Sac State went 0-for-5 in the period. The Bruins won the period 29-21, increasing their lead to 82-62.

UCLA's solid perimeter defense continued in the fourth, as the Bruins didn't allow Sacramento State to make a three-pointer in the period (0-for-6). UCLA outscored Sac State 27-14 in the final quarter to provide the 109-76 final.

It was the most points by a Bruin team since UCLA beat Cal Poly 107-83 on Nov. 20, 2007.

For the game, UCLA shot a season-best 62.9 percent from the floor (44-for-70) while holding Sacramento State to 30.3 percent (27-for-89). The Bruins hammered the Hornets on the boards, 58-33, including four or more by seven different players.

Five Bruins scored in double figures. Joining Fields and Billings was sophomore point guard Jordin Canada, who had 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Senior Kacy Swain recorded the third double-double of her career with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Kennedy Burke added 12 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Kari Korver missed all five of her three-point attempts in the first half, but went 2-for-2 in the second half to extend her streak of making at least one three-pointer to 20 straight games. She finished with eight points and three boards.

Maranne Johnson led the Hornets with 20 points. Gretchen Harrigan was the only other Sac State player to reach double figures with 12 points.

The Bruins return to action on Monday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Berkeley to take on the California Golden Bears (7-2) in a rare non-league game 6:05 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network Bay Area.
