UCLA Advances to Semifinals of UCI Invitational
February 22, 2015 | Women's Water Polo
In a pair of games at Corona del Mar High School, UCLA defeated No. 20 Loyola Marymount 12-3 to open the tournament and later beat seventh-ranked Hawai'i 10-4 in the afternoon.
The Bruins (12-1) will meet cross-town rival USC (12-0), which also won twice on Day One. Game time is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
In their first game, the Bruins blanked the Lions in the second and third quarters while building an 8-1 lead entering the fourth quarter. Four players – Charlotte Pratt, Grace Reego, Rachel Fattal and Devin Grab – scored two goals apiece to pace the offense. Defensively, Sami Hill made four saves in the cage.
Against Hawai'i, four fourth quarter goals allowed the Bruins to pull away in a close game. The Rainbow Wahine led 2-1 after the first quarter before UCLA scored four second period goals to take a 5-3 halftime lead.
Ashley Zwirner and Emily Donohoe each scored twice, and Fattal, Elissia Schilling, Grab, Danielle Ferraro, Alexis Angermund and Pratt scored once.
