Similar to its 4-0 victory over Arizona on Friday, UCLA (13-6; 4-0 Pac-12) thoroughly dominated its showdown with the Utes. After winning two matches in doubles play to claim the point, the Bruins then cruised to six straight-set wins in singles action.
UCLA was paced by its top three players on Saturday, as wins by Mackenzie McDonald, Martin Redlicki and Dennis Mkrtchian were what ultimately ended up clinching the win. Mkrtchian, who is ranked No. 26 nationally in singles, was first off, downing Freddie McGeehan, 6-3, 6-2 at court No. 3. He was followed by No. 121 Redlicki at court No. 2, where he downed Parker McGuiness, 6-2, 6-1. The clinching win came from McDonald at the No. 1 court, as the fourth-ranked Bruin sophomore dispatched of Cedric Willems, 6-3, 6-1.
Other singles winners for UCLA on the day were Karue Sell (court No. 4), Joseph Di Giulio (court No. 5) and Austin Rapp (court No. 6).
UCLA has now won five in a row and seven of its last eight matches. Next up for the Bruins is a match at Stanford on April 10.
