Forty-two Bruins to Compete at World University Games July 2-14

A total of 42 Bruins will be competing in the World University Games in Gwanju, South Korea July 2-14, including 18 from the UCLA Track & Field teams and 14 from the NCAA champion UCLA Men's Water Polo team.

UCLA associate track & field head coach Jack Hoyt heads up Team USA, which counts 12 Bruin men and six Bruin women on its roster. Competing on the men's side will be Idrees Bernard, Cody Crampton, Braheme Days, Derek Eager, Alec Faldermeyer, Nick Hartle, Joe Herrera, Austin O'Neil, Leon Powell, Mark Sakioka, Steele Wasik and Mike Woepse. On the women's side are Ashlie Blake, Zibby Boyer, Zaybree Haury, Kylie Price, Tatum Souza and Alexis Walker. Distance coach Forest Braden will also be on the coaching staff. The track & field competition begins on July 8.

Bruin water polo players comprise Team USA - Anthony Daboub, Matt Farmer, Spencer Farrar, Jack Fellner, Jack Grover, Kent Inoue, Maxwell Irving, Chancellor Ramirez, Ryder Roberts, Austin Rone, Alek Ruzic, Alex Wolf and Alec Zwaneveld. UCLA head coach Adam Wright, the 2014 ACWPC Coach of the Year, will serve as head coach. UCLA will also be represented on Team Australia by Gordon Marshall. Both teams begin play on July 2.

UCLA is represented in the tennis competition by men's players Austin Rapp and Martin Redlicki and women's players Kaitlin Ray and Chanelle Van Nguyen. UCLA women's tennis associate head coach Rance Brown will coach them on Team USA. Competition will begin on July 4.

Two members of UCLA's WNIT Women's Basketball championship squad will compete in South Korea - Jordin Canada for Team USA and Paulina Hersler for Team Sweden. Both teams begin play on July 5.

United States 1500 freestyle champion Katy Campbell will represent UCLA in the swimming competition. Heats for the 1500m begin on July 5, with the final scheduled for July 6.

Three other UCLA students will be competing for the U.S. at the World University Games - Stephanie Lam and Ashwin Narkar in badminton and Tim Maytom in men's rowing. Badminton begins play on July 6, and rowing begins July 5.
