Skillman, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced preseason rankings for singles, doubles, and newcomers on Tuesday. Among the rankings are several UCLA players, who are predicted to make a huge impact in the coming season.
The Bruins are led by senior Catherine Harrison, who begins the fall ranked No. 22 nationally. The two-time All-American captured the Pac-12 Singles Title last season, beating No. 25 Klara Fabikova of California in straight sets.
Senior Kyle McPhillips joins Harrison in the top 30, checking in at No. 27. Last season, McPhillips recorded a 20-11 mark, playing primarily in the No. 3 spot. Ranked as high as No. 27 in singles last season, she took down two top-20 opponents (No. 4 Carol Zhao of Stanford and No. 17 Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine) en route to taking home the singles title at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in January.
Rounding out the squad's ranked singles players is Terri Fleming. Ranked 113th, the sophomore posted an impressive 21-9 singles mark in her debut last year.
In doubles, Harrison and McPhillips begin the fall ranked No. 2 behind Florida's Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan. The dynamic duo posted a 25-7 record last season and have a career record together through three seasons of 66-15. Last November, they won the doubles title at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship and held the overall No. 1 ranking in the first edition of spring rankings in January. Harrison and McPhillips finished the 2014-15 season with the No. 5 final ranking.
