UCLA Notes – #13 UCLA 34, Virginia 16 – Sept. 5, 2015
Team
**The Bruins have won five straight season openers at The Rose Bowl (2013 vs. Nevada, 2009 vs. San Diego State, 2008 vs. Tennessee, 2006 vs. Utah). UCLA is 11-1 in its last 12 season/home openers at The Rose Bowl. Today's season opener was just the second time in the last six seasons that UCLA began its campaign at The Rose Bowl.
**UCLA swept its home-and-home series with Virginia. The Bruins claimed a 28-20 victory last Aug. 30 in Charlottesville.
**The Bruins have won 12 of their last 13 non-conference matchups and nine in a row since losing to Baylor in the 2012 Holiday Bowl. UCLA has won all 10 regular-season, non-conference games under head coach Jim Mora.
**UCLA has won 27 of its last 32 non-conference games played at The Rose Bowl.
**The Bruins gained 503 net total yards. UCLA tied a school record last season with five games with at least 500 yards of total offense.
**The Bruins are 26-0 under head coach Jim Mora when leading at the half.
**The Bruins have rushed for at least 100 yards in 21 straight games (had 152 today).
**UCLA has won 25 straight overall games and 44 straight regular-season games when it has held its opponent to less than 20 points.
**A total of 11 different players caught a pass, the most in a single game for the Bruins since Sept. 21, 2013 against New Mexico State when they had 16 different pass catchers.
Freshman QB Josh Rosen
**Became the first Bruin true freshman to start at quarterback in a season opener (freshman became eligible to play in 1972) and the seventh true freshman to start a game under center for UCLA at any point of the season. He is the fourth Bruin true freshman QB to win his first start (Matt Moore and Drew Olson, 2002; Tom Ramsey, 1979).
**Rosen went 28-for-35 for 351 yards and three touchdowns. The completions, attempts and yardage totals are the most in a single game for a UCLA true freshman, breaking records held by Cade McNown (1995). The three TD's tie McNown's mark.
**Of the last 15 quarterbacks making their first start at UCLA, 11 have led the Bruins to victory. Rosen's 28 completions and 351 yards are the most among those 15 QB's, while the three TD's tie the mark.
