The UCLA track and field team takes another long trip this weekend

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA track and field team will head to Lincoln, Neb., to compete at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 5 and be held in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The meet begins on Friday at 10 a.m. PT and on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. PT, with the combined events. The rest of the track and field action begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m., PT and Saturday at 10 a.m. PT.

More than 30 schools are expected to compete at this year's meet. On the men's side, some of the top teams are No. 3 Texas, No. 14 Texas Tech No. 15 Nebraska and No. 24 Kansas State. On the women's side, No. 5 Texas and No. 6 Kansas State are the top-ranked squads.

Saturday's field events and running events will be recorded by Big Ten Network and will air tape delayed on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. PT. Live results will be available at Huskers.com.

UCLA returns after competition last weekend at the Razorback Invitational. Standout performances for the Bruins were senior Nicholas Scarvelis winning the shot put with a throw of 66-3.75, freshman Rai Benjamin placing third place in the 200m with a time of 21.17, and sophomore Misana Viltz placing fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.04.

Senior Nicholas Scarvelis enters the weekend still ranking second in the country in the shot put with a personal best toss of 66-9.75. He has thrown over 66 feet twice this indoor campaign.

UCLA will return to the indoor oval when it heads to Seattle, Wash., to compete at the Husky Classic. The meet will be held on Friday Feb. 12 and Saturday Feb. 13.
