TOURNAMENT PLAY WRAPS UP IN LAKEWOOD
The 14th-ranked Bruins close out their regular-season tournament schedule this weekend at the Long Beach State Louisville Slugger Invitational at Mayfair Park in Lakewood. UCLA will face a pair of teams receiving votes in the national polls on Friday, Mississippi State (4:30 p.m.) and the host 49ers (7 p.m.). It will be another doubleheader on Saturday versus Utah Valley (11:30 a.m.) and Iowa State (4:30 p.m.), followed by a Sunday finale against Princeton at 10 a.m.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
UCLA dropped one spot in both national polls this week, falling from 13th to 14th in the USA Today/NFCA rankings and from 15th to 16th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. The Bruins are ranked second in the Pac-12 preseason poll.
KYLEE PEREZ NAMED PAC-12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Kylee Perez was named Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 23 after her outstanding offensive display at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic I.
Perez had hits in all five games in Cathedral City, going 11-for-16 (.688) with seven runs batted in, five runs scored, two home runs, two walks and a stolen base. She had multiple hits in four of the five contests and at least three RBI in two games.
It is the first career conference POW award for Perez and the 75th Pac-10/12 Player of the Week honor for UCLA.
BENNETT, SPAULDING ON PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST
Senior Allexis Bennett and junior Delaney Spaulding have been named to the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, as announced by ASA/USA Softball on Feb. 3.
In its 15th year, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, given by the National Governing Body for softball in the United States, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. Previous recipients of the award include former Bruin Stacey Nuveman, the winner of the inaugural accolade in 2002.
The pre-season Watch List includes 25 seniors, 15 juniors and 10 sophomores. Freshmen can be considered for the award once they have competed at the collegiate level. The Top 25 finalists for the award will be announced on April 13. While an athlete does not have to be on the Watch List to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 finalists.
The Top 10 finalists will be announced on May 11 and the Top Three finalists will be announced on May 25. On May 31, prior to the start of the 2016 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed.
SCOUTING THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
The Bruins have won all three matchups against Mississippi State and have outscored the Bulldogs, 10-0. The last matchups were in 2006 in Lakewood by scores of 2-0 (March 10) and 3-0 (March 12) ... UCLA leads the all-time series with Long Beach State, 70-10, but the 49ers were victorious last Feb. 27 at this tournament (5-4). Prior to that, the Bruins had won seven in a row against the 49ers ... the Bruins are facing Utah Valley and Princeton for the first time ... UCLA has claimed a pair of 9-0, five-inning victories against Iowa State in 1991 and 2005 (both neutral sites) in the only meetings between the two teams.
