ORLANDO, Fla. - Golf Channel announced on Tuesday the eight participants in the second annual East Lake Cup presented by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which on the women's side includes 2016 national semifinalist UCLA. The tournament will take place at historic East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) and air on Golf Channel.
Joining the Bruins in the Peach State this fall will be defending national champion Washington, 2016 runner-up Stanford and national semifinalist Duke. The men's side consists of Oregon, Texas, Illinois and Vanderbilt. The tournament format will expand for its second year, as there will be three days of competition. On Monday, Oct. 31, the teams will compete in individual stroke play to determine the individual champion and to seed for the following two days of match play. The match-play semifinals will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, followed by the final and consolation matches on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The East Lake Golf Club is home to the PGA TOUR's season-ending TOUR Championship.
"UCLA is very excited to have the opportunity to compete in the East Lake Cup this year," head coach Carrie Forsyth said. "We had an excellent postseason run last year and feel fortunate to have the chance to participate in such a prestigious event held on an amazing golf course. This will be our first time playing in this tournament, and we look forward to the match-play format, and all the exciting golf we are sure to experience."
The Bruins won the stroke-play portion of the 2016 NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., and defeated Oregon in the quarterfinals of match play, before falling to eventual national champion Washington in the semifinals. UCLA returns seven student-athletes from last year's squad, which posted five stroke-play victories. Key returners on the team include senior Bronte Law, the winner of the 2016 ANNIKA Award, and fellow All-Americans Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu, who are each coming off spectacular freshman campaigns. Also returning are senior Hadas Libman, who was a member of the NCAA Championship fivesome, as well as juniors Erin Choi, Lydia Choi and Aliea Clark. Joining the Bruins for the 2016-2017 season will be incoming freshmen Mariel Galdiano and Clare Amelia Legaspi, and Joo Seo, a transfer from UC Irvine.
