LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- UCLA head women's beach volleyball coach Stein Metzger announced today the signing of Cami Sanchez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) to a National Letter of Intent. Sanchez will enter UCLA in the fall of 2017 as a freshman and will become a member of the 2018 women's beach volleyball team. She completes the class, joining Jamie McQuarrie (Redwood City, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) and Megan Muret (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) who signed earlier in the signing period.
"Cami's passion, energy and experience on the court will be a welcome addition to our team," Coach Metzger said. "She is a big-game hunter who plays her best under pressure and has had tremendous success in both the indoor and beach disciplines."
Sanchez, a 5-foot-10 product at Huntington Beach High School, is a four-year letterwinner at HBHS as an outside hitter on the indoor team. She was also a four-time All-Sunset League (2013-16) selection and in 2015 was also named All-County.
She was part of the U17 Junior National Championship team in 2016 and was named the Junior National Most Valuable Player. In 2013, she won gold at the U15 High Performance National Team Championships. She also captured gold in 2014 at the U17 High Performance National Team Championships, earning AAA rating in 2014 as well. She captured silver at the 2015 U17 High Performance National Team Championships and is a member of the 2016 U19 High Performance National Team.
Sanchez said she chose to be a Bruin because, "It is a tremendous opportunity to earn a degree from one of the most prestigious universities in the country while competing at the highest level in the Pac-12 and nationally."
