LOS ANGELES – Freshman guard TJ Leaf of the men's basketball team has been voted as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Leaf, a 6-foot-10 forward from El Cajon, Calif., also was voted the student-athlete of the week on Nov. 22. In the Bruins' two wins last week – versus UC Riverside and at Kentucky – Leaf averaged 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He totaled 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 97-92 win at No. 1-ranked Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
 
Through the Bruins' first nine games, Leaf has shot 67.4 percent from the field, the second highest mark among Pac-12 players. In addition, he is tied for sixth in the conference in rebounding (9.4 rpg) and ranks eighth in scoring (17.2 ppg). He secured Pac-12 Player of the Week honors on Monday.
 
The weekly award is chosen by fans on Twitter via @UCLAAthletics. Other nominees for this week's award were Reily Buechler (women's volleyball) and Monique Billings (women's basketball).
 
UCLA has opened the season 9-0 for the first time since 2006-07, when the Bruins won their first 14 games before advancing to the NCAA Tournament's Final Four.
 
The Bruins have moved to the No. 2 spot in each of the AP and USA Today Coaches poll, as released Monday. This marks the highest ranking for UCLA in either poll since the week of Nov. 26, 2007, when UCLA was tabbed No. 2 in the AP poll and No. 1 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
 
No. 2 UCLA (9-0) will host Michigan (6-2) on Saturday, Dec. 10. Game time is 5 p.m. (PT). The Bruins' contest in Pauley Pavilion will be nationally televised on ESPN2, with Dave Flemming and Dan Dakich calling the action.
