December 15, 2016 | Women's Soccer
UCLA senior forward Darian Jenkins (Riverton, Utah) was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America third team and to the Scholar All-West Region first team.
Jenkins holds a 3.42 GPA in American Literature & Culture and is expected to graduate after the 2017 winter quarter. UCLA's team co-captain and co-Offensive MVP scored seven goals, including five game-winners, and 17 points in 11 games before sustaining a season-ending leg injury on Oct. 2. Jenkins still earned second-team NSCAA All-Pacific Region and All-Pac-12 honors and was a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award. Additionally, she earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic acclaim.
Jenkins becomes the fifth UCLA player in the last four years to earn NSCAA Scholar All-America honors. She joins 2013 Scholar All-American of the Year Abby Dahlkemper, two-time honoree Sarah Killion, and Jenna Richmond and Sam Mewis.
Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America recognition must meet the following criteria: 3.30 cumulative GPA or better, start more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team, be nominated by the head coach of a current NSCAA College Services member institution, and be a junior or above in academic standing.
Players on this year's Scholar All-America teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on Jan. 14, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.
