UCLA Hands Arizona First Loss of 2016

LOS ANGELES -- No. 3 UCLA (4-3) rallied to post a 3-2 win over No. 7 Arizona (5-1) on Saturday morning at Sunset Canyon Beach Volleyball Courts on the campus of UCLA. It marked the Bruins' first-ever Pac-12 Conference match while Arizona fell to 1-1 in Pac-12 play.
The Bruins claimed the first point on court four when junior Laurel Weaver and senior Julie Consani defeated Arizona's Mia Mason and Sara Pantovic in straight sets, 22-20, 21-15.
But Arizona tied it at 1-1 with a three-set win on court five. The Wildcats' Hailey Devlin and MacKenzie Kleespies defeated UCLA's tandem of sophomore Reily Buechler and senior Karly Drolson, 26-24, 21-13.
Court one featured the battle of the twins and Arizona took a 2-1 lead after McKenna Witt and Madison Witt defeated the Bruins' freshman pair of Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara in straight-sets, 26-24, 21-16.
UCLA started its comeback with two three-set victories. First at No. 3 doubles, senior Kamila Tan and freshman Zana Muno rallied to beat Arizona's Sam Manley and Olivia MacDonald, 19-21, 21-19, 15-11.
The Bruins sealed the come-from-behind victory at No. 2 doubles when UCLA's duo of sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey hung on to defeat Arizona's Jianna Bonomi and Kat Schulz, 21-11, 19-21, 15-12, to secure the team victory, seconds after Tan and Muno completed their comeback.
The Bruins return to action on March 23 when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to face No. 16 Tulane at 7:00 a.m. PT and will then face No. 17 Florida Atlantic at 11:00 a.m. PT.
