March 15, 2016 | Football
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA campus was the focal point of the National Football League on Tuesday as 123 representatives from all 32 teams observed the annual UCLA Pro Day that featured 18 Bruins. The 123 NFL personnel in attendance included 15 front office executives and 26 coaches.
The UCLA Pro Day marked the debut of Myles Jack in front of pro scouts on the field as the multi-faceted athlete broad jumped 10-4, showcased a vertical of 40'' and participated in position drills.
The Pro Day also highlighted several Bruins that did not attend the NFL Combine as Devin Fuller blitzed the 40-yard dash in a time of 4.36, equaling the day's best from Roosevelt Davis. Fuller also posted a 36'' vertical and 10-4 broad jump while Davis ran the quickest 10-yard time at 1.43. Wide receiver Logan Sweet posted the fastest 3-cone drill at 6.90 and also timed a 4.48 in the 40.
Another Bruin who helped his stock was linebacker Aaron Wallace. The San Diego native clocked a sensational 4.44 in the 40-yard dash while weighing in at 242 lbs. That time would have blown away the field at the NFL Combine as the fastest linebacker posted a time of 4.55. Wallace also ran a 4.09 in the 20-yard shuttle, broad jumped 10-10, had a vertical of 36” and benched 25 reps at 225.
Of the nine Bruins that went to the NFL Combine – the third most in the country, not a lot of improvements needed to be made based on their performances in Indianapolis. Of the few that did compete on Tuesday, offensive lineman Jake Brendel put up 27 reps in the bench while Caleb Benenoch posted 25 reps. Brendel also broad jumped 9-2.
After the workout Jack, Paul Perkins, Kenny Clark, Jordan Payton and UCLA head coach Jim Mora met with the over 60 members of the media in attendance.
Spring practice will begin for UCLA on March 29. The Spring Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 and will be held on campus at Drake Stadium. The 2016 NFL Draft will run from April 28 until April 30 and will take place at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Ill.
