Track Set for Pac-12 Championships

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team will head to the Husky Track in Seattle, Wash., this weekend to compete at the Pac-12 Championships. The two-day meet will begin on Saturday, May 14 and conclude on Sunday, May 15. A tape-delayed broadcast of the championships will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks on Sunday, May 22 at 9 a.m. PT.

The UCLA men have won a league-best 17 team titles since 1960 and has had an individual champion in each of the last 51 years. The women pace the league with 15 team championships and sport 129 event titles. Last year in Westwood the UCLA men placed fourth with 83 points while the women finished fifth with 64 points.

The Bruins enter the meet ranked 16th in the country in the latest men's computer rankings put out by the USTFCCCA. UCLA will sport a strong field in Seattle as the Bruins have 23 marks ranked in the top five in the conference and five that pace the field.

Leading the Bruins into the postseason is senior Nicholas Scarvelis, who will be looking to defend his Pac-12 shot put title for the third consecutive year. Scarvelis leads the nation in the event with a personal best throw of 67-7.50. He also ranks second in the conference and 16th in the country in the discus with a best of 192-10.

Current conference leaders also include junior Torie Owers in the women's shot put. Owers ranks fourth in the nation with a personal best of 57-5. Freshman Greta Wagner showcases the top pole vault mark with a clearance of 13-8.50 while senior Kylie Price has soared to the top mark in the long jump with a leap of 21-4.75. On the track senior Nick Hartle leads the conference in the 800m with a time of 1:46.73.

The NCAA West Regional will begin on Thursday, May 26 and go through Saturday, May 28 on Lawrence, Kan. The NCAA Championships begins on Wednesday, June 8 in Eugene, Ore.
