
UCLA Earns Berth to NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team (24-4, 5-1 MPSF) earned another berth to the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship, the NCAA Selection Committee announced on Monday evening.
The 10-team field includes seven automatic qualifiers and three at-large bids. Top-ranked USC (MPSF), No. 5 Michigan (CWPA), No. 9 UC Santa Barbara (Big West), No. 12 UC San Diego (Western Water Polo Association), No. 15 San Diego State (Golden Coast), No. 19 Wagner (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), and Whittier (SCIAC) received automatic berths. The MPSF swept the at-large bids, as No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Stanford, and No. 4 Arizona State each secured a spot in the tournament.
The top six teams have been placed in the bracket; the remaining four teams will compete for the last two berths in the bracket via two play-in games. The play-in games will take place May 10 at Canyonview Pool at UC San Diego. The winners will advance to the championship, which will be held May 13-15 at Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.
The 2016 championship will be an eight-team, single-elimination tournament, with a consolation bracket to determine places three through eight. UCLA faces the winner of the UCSD/Whittier play-in game on Friday, May 13, at 12 pm PDT.
