
UCLA Heads to NCAA Track Championships

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team will look to close out the collegiate season in impressive fashion as the Bruins had 10 individual athletes plus a relay qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The meet will begin on Wednesday, June 8 and conclude on Saturday, June 11 and will be held at Historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
With the women's 4x100m relay team qualifying the Bruins will be sending a total of 13 athletes up to Eugene. Of the 10 individuals that qualified, five will be competing in multiple events.
On the women's side freshman Angie Annelus will run the 200m and most likely the third leg of the 4x100m relay. The rookie notched the last qualifying time in the 200m with a lifetime best of 23.22.
Also competing in multiple events will be senior Kylie Price and sophomore Jessie Maduka. Price holds the fourth best prelim mark in the long jump at 20-10.50 and will anchor the relay while Maduka has a long jump prelim mark of 20-1.75 that ranks 20th. She is also slated to run the second leg of the relay and will be joined by either Schuyler Moore or Suzie Acolatse. The relay ranks 22nd in the field but has clocked a season best 43.91.
In the men's competition senior Nick Hartle clocked the 14th fastest prelim time at 1:48.24. Senior Lane Werley has the 11th fastest 10k prelim time at 29:58 while freshman Rai Benjamin ran a 50.88 to rank 15th in the 400m hurdles.
In the field senior Nicholas Scarvelis leads a strong Bruin squad with the top mark in the prelims in the shot put at 66-4.25 while sophomore Braheme Days follows in third at 65-6 and freshman Dotun Ogundeji is eighth at 62-11.50. Scarvelis also ranks 20th in the discus at 185-1 and Ogundeji follows at 23rd with a mark of 183-8.
Junior Austin Hazel completes the field unit for UCLA in the long jump as he enters with a prelim jump of 24-9.25 to rank 17th.
