Gold for U.S. at World Championship

SURREY, B.C. - Bruins Ally Carda, Delaney Spaulding and Paige Halstead were on the gold-medal winning squad at the WBSC Women's World Championship, as the United States Women's National Team defeated Japan by a score of 7-3 on Sunday.
Carda won a pair of games in the circle for Team USA during the tournament, starting four games and posting 11 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings with a 2.21 earned run average. She added two hits in 10 at-bats (.200), with both hits and her lone RBI coming on July 17 against Brazil.
Spaulding notched a pair of home runs and nine runs batted in, belting a grand slam against Austria (July 16) and a solo shot versus Brazil. She was 6-for-22 (.273). Halstead did not appear in any games at the World Championship.
It was the second medal of the summer for Team USA, which earned silver earlier this month at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City. Spaulding recorded nine hits in 17 at-bats (.529), homering in each of her first three games and totaling nine RBI. Carda tossed a scoreless 6 1/3 innings, fanning 12, while going 1-for-3 (.333) with a homer and three RBI at the plate. Halstead was 4-for-6 (.667) with three RBI.
Additionally, four Bruins were on the USA Elite Team that finished fourth at the World Cup. Allexis Bennett was 9-for-18 (.500) with a pair of home runs and seven RBI, Madeline Jelenicki went 4-for-11 (.364) with three homers and five RBI, Mysha Sataraka added three hits in nine at-bats (.333) and three RBI and Madilyn Nickles was 3-for-6 (.500) with a homer and three runs batted in.
