TEMPE, Ariz. – The UCLA women's tennis team checks in at 25th in the first edition of the 2017 Oracle/ITA Women's National Team Rankings, posted January 4.  In the women's singles rankings, freshman Ena Shibahara is ranked No. 4.  Shibahara and fellow freshman Jada Hart are the ninth-ranked doubles team.

Shibahara had a prolific fall season, which culminated in a national championship at the 2016 Oracle ITA Masters.  Shibahara downed second-ranked Luisa Stefani of Pepperdine in three sets in the championship final in October.  Earlier in October, the freshman mounted an impressive run at the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Women's Championships.  Shibahara fell to third-ranked Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State in straights in the championship final.

Shibahara teamed with fellow newcomer Jada Hart in doubles play at the 2016 ITA Southwest Regional Championships.  The duo fell to 19th-ranked Christine Maddox and Mayar Ahmed of Pepperdine in the quarterfinals.  Hart also appeared in the singles main draw, falling to USC's Jessica Failla in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

In November, Hart and Shibahara advanced to the doubles final of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, where they fell to the top-ranked pair of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi (Kentucky).

The Bruins return to action January 13-16 for the National Collegiate Tennis Classic and UNLV's Freeman Memorial Championships.  The squad then kicks off dual match play against Loyola Marymount on Friday, January 20 at 1:30 p.m. PT.
