NORTON, Mass. - Bruin alum Kevin Chappell qualified for his first Presidents Cup team on Monday, claiming the 10th and final automatic spot for the biennial event later this month.

Chappell earned the spot by exactly 0.173 of a point over Charley Hoffman during Monday's final round of the Dell Technologies Championship.

"It's been a range of emotions," Chappell said Monday while he was headed to the airport after finishing in a tie for 35th at TPC Boston. "… Charley is a good friend and I feel for him. It's a great feeling and my emotions move towards getting ready to win the Presidents Cup for Team USA."

U.S. standings are based on FedExCup points over the last two seasons, and the final total was 4,368.804 for Chappell to 4,368.631 for Hoffman.

Having turned pro in 2008, Chappell has earned over $13.7 million in 192 tournaments, posting 10 Top Three finishes and 24 Top 10 showings. Coming off a career-best season in 2016 when he finished 13th in the FedExCup standings, earned over $4.5 million and posted four second-place finishes, Chappell won for the first time on the PGA TOUR in April at the Valero Texas Open. He is currently 20th half way through the FedExCup playoffs, which resumes at the BMW Championship (Sept. 14-17). The Top 30 in the standings then head to the TOUR Championship (Sept. 21-24).

Chappell will become the second Bruin to appear in the Presidents Cup, joining alum Corey Pavin (1994 and 1996). The Presidents Cup will be played at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. (Sept. 28-Oct. 1).
