Ross' Perfect 10 Powers UCLA to Victory at OSU

UCLA freshman and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Kyla Ross scored UCLA's first perfect 10 of the season, achieving perfection on the uneven bars to lead UCLA to a season-high score in a 197.325-196.700 victory at Oregon State.
Ross earned her perfect 10 in the first rotation of the competition with a precise routine that included a powerful toe-on Shaposhnikova, perfect handstands and a stuck double layout dismount. The 10 was the 105th in UCLA history and the Bruins' first on uneven bars since Samantha Peszek on Feb. 8, 2014 and first overall since Danusia Francis scored a 10 on balance beam on Mar. 6, 2016.
Powered by Ross' 10, the Bruins totaled 49.55 on bars, their highest bars score since the 2010 NCAA Regionals. Christine Peng-Peng Lee nearly matched Ross' perfect score, earning 9.95. Madison Kocian and JaNay Honest added scores of 9.875, Sonya Meraz scored 9.85, and Stella Savvidou contributed a 9.8.
Ross' great day continued in rotation two, as she scored 9.925 on a stuck Yurchenko layout full vault, which holds a start value of 9.95. She earned a perfect mark from one of the two judges to win the event. Kocian scored 9.875, Napualani Hall contributed a 9.85, and Honest scored 9.8. Gracie Kramer's 9.775 helped bring the Bruins' total to 49.225.
The Bruins received season-best performances on floor from Savvidou (9.7), Hall (9.85), Honest (9.875) and Kocian (9.925), and a 9.85 from Hallie Mosset to receive a season-high 49.2, and they counted five scores of 9.85 or better on beam, led by Lee's meet-winning 9.925, to score 49.35 on beam.
Kocian won the all-around for the second time this season, scoring a career-high 39.525.
UCLA (2-1) goes back on the road for a dual meet at Arizona State on Saturday, Feb. 4. The meet will be televised live on Pac-12 Network at 12:30 pm PT.
