UCLA Earns 197.725 in Dual Meet Win over Arizona

LOS ANGELES - No. 6 UCLA earned 10 scores of 9.9 or better, including a near-perfect 9.975 on floor exercise by Hallie Mossett, to cruise to a 197.725-196.275 victory over Arizona. The victory was UCLA's 700th in program history.
The Bruins were competing in their third meet in seven days yet got better as the day progressed, earning the team's second-highest score of the season. UCLA started with a 49.175 on vault, earned 49.425 on uneven bars, 49.5 on beam and finished with a season-best 49.625 on floor exercise.
"Our number one goal this week was to heal them and give them time for their muscles to rejuvinate and to heal," said UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field. "They only had one day of training this week, so I was very pleased with how they did today."
Freshman and 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist Madison Kocian won the all-around for the fifth time this season, tying her career-high with a 39.625. Fellow freshman and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Kyla Ross took first-place honors on all three events on which she competed, recording 9.95s on uneven bars and balance beam and tying for first with Kocian and Sonya Meraz on vault with a 9.85.
Mossett's 9.975 on floor topped a final rotation that saw four Bruins score 9.9 or higher. Macy Toronjo earned a career-high 9.925, Angi Cipra recorded a season-best 9.9, Kocian tied her career-high with a 9.95, and Mossett topped her career-best with a 9.975 that saw one judge give her a perfect 10.
Balance beam also saw four Bruins score 9.9 or higher. Ross, who scored a perfect 10 on Monday, led the team with a 9.95. Kocian earned a 9.925, and Christine Peng-Peng Lee and Katelyn Ohashi each scored 9.9.
UCLA (7-2) returns to action on Sunday, Mar. 5 against California at 1pm in Pauley Pavilion.
