UCLA Tops NC Dinos in Exhibition Affair

LOS ANGELES - Kyle Cuellar and Gavin Johns each collected two hits and drove in two runs as the UCLA baseball team defeated the NC Dinos of the Korean Baseball Organization, 5-2, on Wednesday in an exhibition game from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the eighth inning, Cuellar gave the Bruins the lead with a triple to right-center field for the game-winning run. Jake Pries gave UCLA a two-run advantage with a pinch-hit double off the left-center field wall and Johns would cap off the three-run inning with another double to center field for the final score of 5-2.
The Dinos scored quickly in the first inning on a wild pitch but UCLA tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second inning as Nick Kern ripped a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cuellar.
The Bruins allowed a passed ball to score a run in the third inning but responded with a run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2 as Johns hit an infield single to plate Cuellar.
UCLA's bullpen threw 6.0 shutout innings and combined for five strikeouts. Ryan Garcia earned the win tossing a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts. Brian Gadsby recorded the save getting all three outs in the ninth inning and allowed just one hit. Bruins starting pitcher Jack Ralston threw 3.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout.
This weekend the Bruins will be a part of the annual Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic. UCLA will host Michigan on Friday at 6 p.m. (PT) and San Diego on Saturday at 2 p.m. (PT) at Jackie Robinson Stadium before taking on crosstown rival USC at Dodger Stadium with first pitch set for 3 p.m. (PT). Sunday's game at Dodger Stadium will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
