White Team Rallies for Football Showcase Win

The White team used a 10-point fourth quarter to take home a 17-10 win as Head Coach Jim Mora's Bruins wrapped up Spring football with the annual Showcase event on Saturday afternoon in Drake Stadium. Junior running back Bolu Olorunfunmi broke free on a 46-yard scoring run with 1:37 to play in the fourth quarter to cap off the rally by the Honorary Head Coach Valorie Kondos Field's White team.
Olorunfunmi, who finished with 88 rushing yards on 14 carries in the game, opened the scoring with a two-yard run late in the second quarter. Redshirt freshman quarterback Devon Modster completed three passes on the scoring drive - one to Brandon Stephens for 17 yards, one to Alex Van Dyke for 11 and one to Olorunfunmi for seven.
Josh Rosen then led the Blue team on a 12-play scoring drive to tie the score at 7. Darren Andrews was on the receiving end of three passes during the drive, the last was a 13-yard strike in the end zone with four seconds remaining before halftime. Rosen connected on four passes for double-digit yardage on the drive, two to Andrews (13, 11) and one each to Eldridge Massington (16) and Caleb Wilson (12).
In the third quarter, redshirt freshman Matt Lynch led the Blue team on a 12-play scoring drive which ended with a 22-yard field goal by JJ Molson. Nate Starks carried five times for 30 yards on the drive which lifted the Blue into a 10-7 advantage heading to the fourth quarter. After the next two drives resulted in punts, true freshman Austin Burton quarterbacked the White team on a 12-play scoring drive which resulted in a 37-yard field goal by Andrew Strauch with 4:42 left in the game. Burton completed four of five passes on the drive.
The White defense then held the Blue team on downs and took over at their own 45-yard line with just under two minutes to play. Craig Myers came on to quarterback the White team and ran for nine yards to set up Olorunfunmi's long scoring run.
Rosen completed 14 of 18 passes on the day for 83 yards and a touchdown. He threw for one touchdown and was intercepted by Adarius Pickett. Andrews caught five passes for 32 yards on the day while Massington finished with four catches for 30 yards. Caleb Wilson added two grabs for 59 yards. VanDyke caught three passes for 47 yards and Jordan Wilson added three catches for 24 yards.
Notes --- It was announced at halftime that walk-on tight end/fullback and special teams standout Giovanni Gentosi would be put on scholarship. Honorary Blue Team coach Amanda Cromwell, a former member of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and current Head Women's Soccer Coach at UCLA, booted the first extra point of the game for her team.
