UCLA Seeded 2nd for 2017 NCAA Championship

The Bruins will take on #7 LSU in the opening round on May 5 at Noon in Gulf Shores, Ala.

INDIANAPOLISย -- Second-ranked UCLA (29-4) has earned a No. 2ย seed to theย 2017ย National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship as announced by the NCAA Women's Beach Volleyball Committee tonight.
The field was selected from the 65 NCAA institutions sponsoring the sport of beach volleyball. Three teams were selected from the East Region and three teams were selected from the West Region. The remaining two teams were selected at-large from the teams across the country. All eight teams were then seeded.
The finalists selected from the East Region include: Florida State, LSU and South Carolina. Pepperdine, USC and UCLA made up the West Region selections, while Hawai'i and Long Beach State were granted at-large bids.
USC earned the No. 1 seed, followed by the West Region securing the next two seeds in No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 Pepperdine. Florida State secured the fourth seed. At-large selections Hawai'i and Long Beach State earned the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively, followed by East Region selections No. 7 LSU and No. 8 South Carolina.
The championship will be held Friday through Sunday, May 5-7, in Gulf Shores, Ala., hosted byย the city of Gulf Shores, University of Alabama at Birmingham and Orange Beach Sports Commission. The event will be televised live by Turner networks, with truTV providing live coverage on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, from 3-6 p.m. ET and the championship round airing on TBS on Sunday, May 7, at 2 p.m. ET. Additional live-streaming coverage of every court in each match of the tournament will be available on NCAA.com.
UCLA opens play on Friday, May 5 at Noon against 7th-seeded LSU (26-6). The Bruins faced the Tigers earlier in the year, winning 3-2 in Manhattan Beach at the inaugural East Meets West Invitational on March 11 on a foggy day. Two of the Bruins' wins were in three sets on courts three and four. Elise Zappia and Izzy Carey, now with different partners, provided the clinching point on court four with a 25-27, 21-13, 15-11 win overย Riley Young and Maddie Ligon.
