Danner and Roberts Named Cutino Award Finalists

SAN FRANCISCOย --ย The Olympic Club of San Francisco announced today the 2016-17 Cutino Award finalists.ย This award is given to the outstanding female and male collegiate water polo players in the United States as voted by the coaches of the Division I schools.
Ryder Roberts and Garrett Dannerย of UCLA men's water polo have been named finalists.ย
Roberts, aย first team All-American in 2016, was 2nd on the team in goals scoredย (35 goals), third in assists (29), and led the team in stealsย (38). He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2015ย NCAA Championship after the Bruins won their second-consecutive national title.ย Roberts is seventh on the UCLA all-time scoring list with 158 career goals.ย
Danner, aย thirdย team All-American and MPSF Player of the Year in 2016, led the Bruins in the cage with 159 saves and was second on the team in steals (33).ย He wonย the 2016 Cutino Awardย after setting the all-time single-season saves record with 278 in 2015.ย Dannerย completed his UCLA career atop the leaders in total saves (932).
Joining Roberts and Danner on the list of nominees areย USC's McQuin Baron and Blake Edwards.
The winners will be announced at the 18th Annual Cutino Awards Night Dinner to be held Saturday June 3rd, 2017 at The Olympic Club's City Clubhouse located at 524 Post Street in San Francisco.ย
The award is given annually in honor of the late Peter J. Cutino, the former University of California Berkeley and The Olympic Club coach, who passed away in September 2004.ย Mr. Cutino is in the U.S. Water Polo Hall of Fame.ย He won "Water Polo Coach of the Year" 17 times. He led U.C. Berkeley to eight NCAA National Championships.ย In his career Mr. Cutino also coached in the Pan American Games, the Water Polo World Championships and the World University Games.ย
