Kenny Young Named to Lott Trophy Watch List

The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundationย named UCLA senior linebacker Kenny Young as one of 42 student-athletes to the 2017 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List in an announcement made on Friday. The award is presented to college football's defensive player of the year and this year's list includes seventeen (17) linebackers, fourteen (14) defensive linemen and eleven (11) defensive backs. The Pac-12 Conference has the most players on the Watch List with ten (10), followed by the ACC with nine (9), the Big Ten with eight (8), the SEC with six (6), the Big 12 with five (5), the AAC with two (2) and two (2) independents.ย
Young started all 12 games last season and finished second on the team with 90 tackles. He ranked fifth in the conference in total tackles per game average (7.5) and was named second-team All-Pac-12 Conference. He tied for 11th in the Pac-12 in sacks per game (0.42) and was second on the Bruin team with 8.5 tackles for loss. Young's total of three fumble recoveries ranked tied for eighth in the country. He was credited with at least six tackles in each game last season and recorded a season-best of 12 stops versus Arizona. Also a standout off the field, Young has an extensive record of community service and has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Rollย in Winter Quarter 2017, Spring Quarter 2016, Fall Quarter 2016 and Fall Quarter 2015. He was the recipient of the Academic & Student Services Success Award at the recent 2017 UCLA Scholar-Athlete Banquet.
Two Bruin linebackers, Eric Kendricks in 2014 and Anthony Barr in 2013, have been presented the award which is named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott.The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.ย

Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and a distinguished group of former college football head coaches. To date, the Foundation has donated more than $1.1 million to various charities throughout the country.
