UCLA Announces 2017 Men's Water Polo Schedule

UCLA opens the season at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 2 vs. Pomona-Pitzer in the opening game of the UCLA Invitational.

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's water polo team announced its 2017 schedule today, highlighted by conference home games against USC and California and a road date at Stanford. All three MPSF matches will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network.
The Bruins will compete in three different regular-season invitationals during the year, including at UCLA, at Princeton and at USC.
It all starts on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Spieker Aquatics Center as the Bruins face Pomona-Pitzer at 9:00 a.m. in the first game of the UCLA Invitational. UCLA will also face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1:00 p.m.) before hosting USC in an exhibition game at 2:20 p.m.
UCLA will again head to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the Princeton Invitational on Sept. 8-10. That Invitational schedule has not been announced. The following weekend, the Bruins return home for one game against UC Santa Barbara under the lights on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
The Bruins will head to USC on Sept. 22 to compete in the MPSF Invitational and will close out competition for the month of September with a road date at UC Irvine at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday the 30th.
UCLA will head to Malibu, Calif., to face Pepperdine on Saturday, Oct., 7 before returning to the friendly confines of Spieker Aquatics Center the following weekend to host Cal Baptist on Friday, Oct. 13 and Long Beach State on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Bruins will open league play against the reigning NCAA Champions, California, at home on Saturday, Oct. 21, making its Pac-12 Network debut for 2017. Only one game will be on the slate the next weekend, a home date with Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 28.
UCLA will return to league play on Saturday, Nov. 4 when it heads to Stanford for another MPSF game on the Pac-12 Networks. The Bruins step out of league action for a game against San Jose State at West Valley College on Sunday, Nov. 5, before returning home to host USC on Saturday, Nov. 11 to close out league and regular season play on the Pac-12 Networks. Stanford will host the five-team MPSF Championship on Nov. 17-19 while USC will host the NCAA Championship on Dec. 2-3.
The Bruins finished the 2016 season with a 25-3 record, finishing tied for third at the NCAA Championship and placing second at the MPSF Championship. In addition, the 2016 squad set the NCAA and UCLA all-time longest winning streak in men's water polo at 57 games, which is also the second-longest streak in any sport in the history of UCLA. Top Bruins returning include seniors Max Irving, Matt Farmer and Alex Roelse. Irving was third last year in scoring with 30 goals and was named Second Team All-MPSF and as an Honorable Mention All-American. Farmer was seventh on the squad in scoring last year at 21 goals and garnered Honorable Mention All-MPSF acclaim. A 2016 Olympian for Team USA, Roelse was also an Honorable Mention All-MPSF selection and was also tabbed as an Honorable Mention All-American after finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 29 goals.
