English, Tuiasosopo Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

UCLA's Jasmine English and Lanea Tuiasosopo have earned CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Honors, as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
English, a junior from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has been named a national scholar-athlete selection for the second straight season (freshman are not eligible for this academic award). Tuiasosopo, a sophomore from Tucson, Ariz., has been honored for the first time.
Two of UCLA's rowers in the second varsity eight boat, English and Tuiasosopo are both majoring in political science and have compiled well over the minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average that is required for this national award.
Both English and Tuiasosopo primarily rowed in UCLA's second varsity eight crew during the 2016-17 season. They helped lead the 2V8+ to a first-place finish in the annual dual meet showdown against USC on April 30 and to a first-place finish on the first day of the San Diego Crew Classic (April 1).
Student-athletes must be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility to be named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. Likewise, these student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while participating in at least 75 percent of their rowing team's spring competitions.
