Redlicki, Zhu Named ITA All-Americans

June 08, 2017 | Men's Tennis

TEMPE, Ariz. – Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu were named 2017 All-Americans in an announcement made by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Thursday. The pair teamed to form a doubles combination that completed its season at No. 5 in the final Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Doubles Ranking.

Redlicki-Zhu went 21-5 on the season, including a 17-3 mark in dual-match play. The duo's longest win streak of nine matches culminated in a doubles point-clinching victory over No. 9 AJ Catanzariti and Arthur Rinderknech of Texas A&M in the Bruins' NCAA Round of 16 win over the Aggies. For the season, Redlicki-Zhu clinched seven doubles points. The tandem also reached the quarterfinal round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Doubles Championship, where it fell to eventual champion No. 15 Andrew Harris-Spencer Papa of Oklahoma. Redlicki-Zhu went 8-3 against ranked opponents and tallied wins versus two of the three teams against which it suffered losses. The pair most notably avenged a loss to USC's team of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith when it dispatched the No. 10 duo in the Bruins' Pac-12-clinching regular-season finale.

The All-American honor marks the second in a row for Redlicki, who also earned his 2016 selection for his role in one of the nation's top doubles team. He joined with Mackenzie McDonald to win the NCAA doubles championship.

In order to be selected as ITA All-Americans, doubles teams must be a top-8 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, reach the quarterfinals in the NCAA Doubles Championship or finish in the Top 10 of the final Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings.
