TEMPE, Ariz. – UCLA men's tennis was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year Tuesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced. Individually, Daniel Gealer, Michael Guzman, Travis Martin, Austin Rapp and Martin Redlicki earned Scholar-Athlete recognition.
In order to qualify as an All-Academic Team, a program must possess a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Scholar-Athlete status is awarded to student-athletes who are varsity letter winners, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Across men's and women's tennis, 302 All-Academic Teams and 1,521 Scholar Athletes earned the designations for 2017.
Redlicki, who recently completed his junior season, earned his third Scholar-Athlete award. Austin Rapp became a two-time honoree. Each player was previously recognized by the Pac-12 when the conference's All-Academic honors were handed out. Redlicki was named to the Second Team, while Austin Rapp earned an Honorable Mention nod. On the court, Redlicki garnered his second straight All-Pac-12 First Team selection. Austin Rapp completed his junior campaign with a career-high 18 wins in singles play.
Gealer posted a 10-6 singles mark in his first in his first action as a Bruin. He also went 7-3 in doubles play. Guzman knocked off Austin Wong of Cal Lutheran, 6-4, 6-3, in his lone dual-match decision of his final season, while Martin teamed with Gage Brymer to knock off Joshua Legardy and Kylel Gillam of the Kingsmen, 6-1, in doubles play.
