UCLA junior Ashlie Blake (Las Vegas, Nev.) has been named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Blake threw the nation's top collegiate mark this year in the shot put at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational, unleashing a lifetime-best throw of 17.73m (58-2) to win the event. Her throw ranks as the No. 5 mark in UCLA history and is less than two inches shy of the Pac-12 all-time top 10. Blake also earned a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 47.66m.
This is the UCLA women's first weekly award since Alexis Walker won Field Athlete of the Week on Apr. 21, 2014.
Also honored by the Pac-12 were Men's Track Athlete of the Week Sean McGorty from Stanford, Women's Track Athlete of the Week Grayson Murphy from Utah, and Men's Field Athlete of the Week McKay Johnson from California.
The Bruins are back home on Saturday, Apr. 14, hosting the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
