TUCSON, Ariz. – UCLA baseball's Zach Pettway and Holden Powell were named to the Freshman All-American Team by Collegiate Baseball, announced the publication on Wednesday.

It marks the fourth consecutive year a UCLA player has been named a Freshman All-American as Kyle Cuellar and Michael Toglia earned the honor last season. In total, 17 players have earned Freshman All-America distinctions under head coach John Savage.

Pettway, a right-handed pitcher, was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention and finished his freshman campaign with an 8-4 record in 16 appearances, including 15 starts, and posted a 3.35 ERA. The Long Beach, Calif. native, led the team with 78 strikeouts in 96.2 innings and walked just 19 batters all season. Pettway ended the regular season top-10 in the Pac-12 in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. He is the first Bruin freshman since 2012 to start his career 5-0 and also the first UCLA freshman since Adam Plutko in 2011 to start and earn a win on the opening weekend. Pettway tossed 8.0 shutout innings against Baylor in his second career start and set a career-high with 10 strikeouts at Arizona on May 4.

Powell, a right-handed pitcher, made 29 appearances out of the bullpen this season and led the team with six saves. He ranked top-10 in the Pac-12 in both appearances and saves. The Visalia, Calif. native threw 33.1 innings and recorded 22 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .235 batting average. During Pac-12 play, Powell recorded a 2.08 ERA with a 2-1 record in 14 appearances and also registered two saves. He recorded his first career save against Baylor at home on Feb. 23 and his first career win after tossing 3.0 shutout innings against Washington State on March 18. Powell also tied a career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts against Minnesota in the NCAA Regionals on June 3.
