UCLA Scores Season-High 197.3 in Win at Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. - No. 4 UCLA showcased its depth with a strong showing at Arizona, defeating the No. 17 Wildcats 197.300-195.750.
Competing 13 gymnasts, along with three others who had strong performances in exhibition, the Bruins totaled 11 career-high scores and had an event winner in all four events. Katelyn Ohashi won the all-around with a career-high 39.45, scoring a career-best 9.875 on vault and season-highs of 9.9 on bars and 9.95 on beam.
Felicia Hano competed all-around for the first time in her Bruin career and contributed a career-high 38.65, contributing career-highs of 9.9 on vault and floor and 9.825 on beam. Her 9.9 on vault was good for first place, and she also tied for first on floor with Pauline Tratz and team.
UCLA (5-0) led from start to finish, scoring 49.25 on bars, led by Kyla Ross' 9.925, 49.3 on vault, and 49.225 on floor led by 9.9s from Hano and Pauline Tratz. The Bruins saved the best for last with a national-best 49.525 on beam in the final rotation. The Bruins scored three 9.95s, from redshirt freshman Grace Glenn, Ohashi and Christine Peng-Peng Lee. One of the two judges gave Lee a 10.0.
Several Bruins made their first appearances on their respective events this season. Sonya Meraz's first floor routine of the year merited a 9.85. Ohashi's first vault in two years scored a career-high 9.875. Madison Kocian returned from shoulder surgery in August to compete on balance beam, and Hano competed on bars for the first time in her Bruin career. Additionally, in her first meet in a year and a half, Anna Glenn performed two exhibition routines, scoring 9.8 on vault and 9.85 on beam. Stella Savvidou also made her season debut, performing a one-handed floor exercise exhibition routine that scored 9.825.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, competing against LSU, North Carolina State and Washington.
