Sheehan, Micah Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors
October 16, 2018 | Women's Soccer
A pair of UCLA women's soccer players earned Pac-12 weekly honors this week, as sophomore Delanie Sheehan was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, and junior Teagan Micah was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this year and sixth time in her career.
UCLA has now won 76 all-time weekly honors, most in the conference.
Sheehan (Brentwood, Calif.) helped the Bruins shut out Washington, 2-0, on the road, UCLA's eighth shutout of the year and second consecutive. Playing at left back, Sheehan helped limit the Huskies to just four shots on goal and scored one herself on an impressive individual effort in the 83rd minute. With UCLA leading just 1-0, she sliced through six Husky defenders to score on a shot to the far post, her third goal of the campaign. Sheehan, who has been playing out of her usual midfield position, is one of just three players who has started every game for UCLA.
Micah (Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia), earned her fifth solo shutout of the season in the win at Washington. She moved into fourth on UCLA's career saves list with 179 after making four saves in the contest, all in the second half. Micah also stands fifth on UCLA's all-time lists for shutouts (23) and victories (39). Holding a 362-minute shutout streak, Micah has not allowed a goal in her last five games, and UCLA has held opponents scoreless in seven of the nine games she has played this season.
UCLA has totaled six Pac-12 weekly honors this season. Sheehan is the third Bruin defender to win the Defensive Player of the Week award, joining Kaiya McCullough (Oct. 9) and Karina Rodriguez (Sept. 18). Micah picked up her first Goalkeeper of the Week award on Aug. 28, and Hailie Mace was named Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 21.
The No. 9 Bruins will host their final regular season home games of the year on Thursday vs. Oregon and Sunday vs. Oregon State.
