UCLA Gymnastics to Host Meet the Bruins Dec. 9
December 03, 2018 | Gymnastics
On Sunday, Dec. 9, the seven-time NCAA champion UCLA Gymnastics team returns to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom for the first time since winning the 2018 national title. UCLA's annual Meet the Bruins Paw-liday party begins at 2pm, with doors opening at 1pm. Admission is free.
For the second consecutive year, the Pac-12 Networks will televise Meet the Bruins, with Jim Watson and 1996 Olympic gold medalist Amanda Borden on the call. Three-time NCAA champion and 2008 Olympic silver medalist Samantha Peszek will report from the sideline.
The event will feature a Blue vs. White intrasquad on all four events. Each team will pick three competitors and one exhibition performer to perform on each event. Each competitors' score will count towards the team total, and one team will be crowned the winner at the end of the meet. Among the expected competitors are 2018 NCAA floor exercise co-champion Katelyn Ohashi, Olympic gold medalists Kyla Ross and Madison Kocian, All-Americans Felicia Hano and Grace Glenn and freshmen standouts and former national team members Margzetta Frazier and Norah Flatley.
Following the meet, retiring UCLA Hall of Fame head coach Valorie Kondos Field will sign copies of her book, Life is Short, Don't Wait to Dance, which will also be on sale in the arena.
UCLA Gymnastics has partnered with Bruin Shelter, a campus organization that operates a shelter for students experiencing homelessness in the greater Los Angeles area. In the spirit of the holidays, we will be advocating for donations to the Bruin Shelter to help provide lunches for homeless students. To learn more, visit www.bruinshelter.org.
The 2019 UCLA Gymnastics season begins officially on Friday, Jan. 4 with a dual meet against Nebraska. Season and single-meet tickets are on sale now at uclabruins.com/tickets.
