DOHA, Qatar - UCLA freshman Patty Tavatanakit helped lead the Asia-Pacific team to victory at the Patsy Hankins Trophy (March 8-10) at the Doha Golf Club. The Asia-Pacific squad defeated the team from Europe by a score of 23.5 to 8.5. The Bruins also had representation on the Europe squad, as 2018-2019 incoming freshman Bel Wardle represented England.
Tavatanakit, a native of Thailand, was a part of 4.5 points for the Asia-Pacific team, winning 3&1 in March 8 fourballs, halving a match in March 8 foursomes, winning 3&2 in fourballs and 1-up in foursomes on March 9 and 3&1 in March 10 singles. The freshman will continue her match play competition in her next tournament with the Bruins, the SDSU March Mayhem (March 26-28). Eight of her 14 rounds this season have seen her shoot in red figures, including each of the first six of her career. Tavatanakit tied for first at the Stanford Intercollegiate (-6, 207, Oct. 16-18) for her first collegiate victory, was second at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (-5, 211, Oct. 1-3) and third at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (-5, 141, Oct. 23-24).
Wardle, who signed her National Letter of Intent with the Bruins in November, faced Tavatanakit in the March 8 foursomes, also participating in three other sessions. She earned a 1-up victory in the March 10 singles.
