MIAMIย -- No. 2 UCLA won its 18th consecutive dualย with a 5-0ย victory over No. 11 Grand Canyonย (8-11) on Saturday morningย at Lummusย Park Beachย Courts at the FIU Surf 'N' Turf Invitational.
The Bruins, who improved to 23-3 on the season, will return to action later today in their final dual of the tournament in Miami, Fla., againstย No. 8 South Carolina.
Junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine secured the first team dual point with a straight-set win on court two over GCU'sย Bella Bauman and Jessica Stansfield, 21-11, 21-11.
Juniorsย Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put the Bruins upย 2-0 with a straight-set win on court one over GCU'sย Molly Turner and Hannah Towne, 21-16, 21-18.
The Bruins clinched the dualย on court five when freshman Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey defeated Grand Canyon's Madison Relaz and Jessica Clark, 21-19, 21-18.
Senior Elise Zappia and freshman Mac May made it 4-0 UCLAย with a three-set thrillerย over the Lopes' Emily Reinking and Jamie Walsh, 21-14, 20-22, 15-10ย on court four.
UCLA's juniorย Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simoย completed the 5-0 sweep on court three, posting a two-set victory over the Antelopes' Taylor Jarzombek and Katie Pyles, 21-12, 21-19.
In an exhibition match on court six, freshman Cami Sanchezย and sophomore Chanti Holroydย tookย down GCU'sย Jordan Sanchez and Olivia Unnaschย in straightย sets, 21-10, 21-13.
