SAN FRANCISCO -
Freshman Patty Tavatanakit won her third tournament in a row and fourth of the season, helping the top-ranked Bruins finish second at the NCAA San Francisco Regional and advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla. (May 18-23).

The Bruins shot a 3-under 285 as a team on Wednesday to finish at 4-under 860 for the three-day event. Along with UCLA, also advancing to the NCAA Championships are Stanford (-8, 856), Ole Miss (-1, 863), Louisville (E, 864), Kent State (+1, 865) and Colorado (+5, 869).

Tavatanakit finished with a 54-hole score of 8-under 208 for her third victorious tournament in a row, shooting a 5-under 67 on Wednesday. After eight pars to open her round, the freshman made four birdies in a row (9-12) before dropping a shot on the 13th. She exchanged pars (No. 14, 16 and 18) and birdies (No. 15 and 17) for the final five holes to finish one stroke ahead of Stanford's Ziyi Wang (-7, 209).

With her fourth victory, Tavatanakit ties teammate Lilia Vu (2016-2017 and 2017-2018) and Charlotte Mayorkas (2003-2004) for the most victories in a single season at UCLA. The triumph also gave the freshman a new UCLA single-season wins record for first-year players. The eight individual wins for the Bruins in 2017-2018 extend a season-best record. Tavatanakit's win is the seventh for the Bruins in NCAA Regional play (Bronte Law, 2016; Stephanie Kono, 2011; Maria Jose Uribe, 2008 and 2009; Sydnee Michaels, 2007; Hannah Jun, 2004).

Sophomore Mariel Galdiano tied for third at 6-under 210, posting a 3-under 69 in her final round. She made six birdies on No. 2, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 14 to go with three bogeys.

Junior Lilia Vu finished in a tie for 22nd (+1, 217), shooting a 2-over 74 on Wednesday. She made one birdie on the fourth and three bogeys. Junior Beth Wu and sophomore Clare Legaspi each tied for 74th (+12, 228). Legaspi shot a 3-over 75 with a birdie on the 11th, two bogeys and a double, while Wu had five bogeys in a 5-over 77.

The NCAA Championships will take place May 18-23 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. The first three days (May 18-20) will feature stroke play, with the Top 15 teams and nine individuals advancing to the final round of stroke play on May 21. Following play on May 21, the top eight teams for match play will be determined, as will the individual winner. The quarterfinals and the semifinals of match play will take place on May 22, with the championship on May 23. Live coverage of the final round of stroke play and all rounds of match play will be televised live on Golf Channel.
