Pair of Bruins Named to Football Watch Lists

Bruin special team standouts Stefan Flintoft and JJ Molson were named Wednesday to the Watch List for the Ray Guy Award and Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards, respectively.
Flintoft averaged 42.9 yards per punt last season for the Bruins. That number ranked fifth in the Pac-12 Conference. The redshirt senior had nine kicks of 50-plus yards and placed 21 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Flintoft finished the season strong with an average of over 43 yards per kick in seven of the last eight contests and his long kick of 65 yards came against Kansas State in the Cactus Bowl.
Molson converted 17 of his 21 field goal attempts in the 2017 campaign. He made his first game-winning kick versus California with four seconds remaining in a 30-27 Bruin victory. The junior's total of 17 field goals made was tied for the 12th-most in school single-season history. Molson also totaled 100 points for the year, tied for the 18th-highest mark in school annals.
The Augusta Sports Council oversees the 2018ย Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate punter. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semifinalists, who will be announced on November 15. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalistsย to be announced on November 20. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. From this list, a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers selects the top three finalists for the award by Tuesday, November 20th. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, December 6th during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The three finalists will be recognized during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet at West Palm Beach's Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on December 3rd.
