Holmes Named to Hornung Watch List

Bruin cornerback and kick returner Darnay Holmes was named on Thursday by the Louisville Sports Commission to the preseason watch list for the 2018 Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse.

Holmes saw action in all 13 games in 2017 for the Bruins and started at corner in 11 contests. He led the team with three interceptions on the season, which tied for seventh in the Pac-12. Holmes returned one interception for a touchdown in the win over Hawai'i and recorded a season-best seven tackles against Washington. The sophomore also returned 33 kickoffs on the year for a 21.7 yard average. The total of 33 returns ranks as the fifth-most in UCLA single-season history.

The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission to the most versatile player in major college football. The winner of the award and his family will be honored at a banquet in downtown Louisville, Ky. The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players demonstrate the same versatility on the football field as Hornung did at Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers.
