July 06, 2018 | Women's Water Polo
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. โ Twelve members of the UCLA women's water polo team garnered ACWPC All-Academic Awards for 2018, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced Thursday. The Bruins also earned team recognition for completing the campaign with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Haley Evans was tops among the UCLA individual honorees with an "Outstanding" designation. Seven Bruins collected "Superior" nods, while four others rounded out the group with "Excellent" awards.
Sophomore Evans posted a GPA of 3.71-4-0 for the second time in as many years to earn the top individual honor. It was a breakthrough year for the attacker, who played in each of the team's 31 games after hitting the pool just once as a freshman. Evans dished out 22 assists to match the fourth highest total on the team.
Senior Devin Grab completed her UCLA career with a third straight "Superior" nod, an honor that rewards GPAs of 3.41-3.70. For the second year in a row, meanwhile, redshirt junior Grace Reego and sophomore Hannah Storum earned memberships into the prestigious club. After earning "Excellent" recognition in 2017, juniors Lizette Rozeboom and Allison Wieseler found themselves in the next tier. Freshmen Lexi Liebowitz and Roxy Wheaton, who each started a majority of the games in their debut campaign, capped their opening act with national accolades.
Each of the remaining four "Excellent" honorees earned ACWPC acknowledgement for the second time in her career. Senior Alexis Angermund repeated what she previously accomplished in 2016, while junior Louise Hazell followed up her "Superior" sophomore season with another standout academic year. Sophomores Bronte Halligan and Maddie Musselman each posted a GPA of 3.20-3.40 for the second time in as many years on campus.
The Bruins previously matched the league high with 10 MPSF All-Academic honorees. Evans, Reego, Storum, Grab, Rozeboom, Halligan, Musselman, Hazell and Angermund earned conference recognition in addition to their subsequent national accolades, while senior Nicole Reynolds captured her third MPSF award in as many eligible years.
