UCLA Hoops Announces Non-Conference Schedule
August 15, 2018 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's basketball team will play 13 non-conference games in 2018-19, including three matchups in December against Notre Dame (Dec. 8), Cincinnati (Dec. 19) and Ohio State (Dec. 22).
ย
The Bruins will open their schedule against Purdue Fort Wayne in Pauley Pavilion on Tuesday, Nov. 6, before hosting consecutive home games against Long Beach State (Nov. 9), Saint Francis U (Nov. 16) and Presbyterian (Nov. 19).
ย
UCLA will play two games in Las Vegas as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, against Michigan State on Thursday, Nov. 22, and either North Carolina or Texas on Friday, Nov. 23.
ย
In addition, the team's non-conference schedule will feature a home game against Notre Dame on Saturday, Dec. 8, and a trip to the Midwest to face Cincinnati in the Bearcats' newly-renovated Fifth Third Arena (Wednesday, Dec. 19) and Ohio State in Chicago in the CBS Sports Classic (Saturday, Dec. 22).
ย
"We're excited about the non-conference schedule that we have assembled this year," said Steve Alford, the Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "Whether you're looking at the November tournament in Las Vegas or the mid-December trip to Cincinnati and Chicago, our guys have some good non-conference challenges ahead of them. Being able to add Notre Dame to our schedule the next two seasons is great for our sport. That's a classic matchup with a ton of history. There's a lot of work to be done before November, but I like this group's potential for growth, based on what we've seen in our summer workouts."
ย
UCLA's 13-game non-conference schedule has the potential to include as many as five teams that competed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. In all, the Bruins' non-conference slate could include as many as nine opponents that played in a postseason tournament in 2017-18. UCLA's complete schedule, including all 18 Pac-12 Conference games, will not be finalized until September.
ย
Following the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, the Bruins will return home to face four consecutive opponents in Pauley Pavilion โ Hawai'i (Nov. 28), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 2), Notre Dame (Dec. 8) and Belmont (Dec. 15).
ย
After taking on Cincinnati (Dec. 19) and Ohio State (Dec. 22), UCLA will close its non-conference schedule with a home game against Liberty (Dec. 29). The Pac-12 schedule will begin after New Year's Day, with California and Stanford headed to Pauley Pavilion the week of Jan. 2-6.
ย
In addition, the Bruins will host an exhibition game in Pauley Pavilion against the New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 27.
ย
UCLA's complete schedule, including all game times, will be finalized in September.
