UCLA Athletics Announces Radio Enhancements for 2018-19

August 27, 2018 | Football, Bruin Athletics

LOS ANGELES – UCLA Athletics today announced several radio enhancements for the 2018-19 athletics season. UCLA, am570 LA Sports, and IMG College, the university's multimedia rights partner, have signed a two-year extension for the station to be the official radio flagship station for the Bruins.

As part of the agreement, all UCLA football and men's basketball games will continue to be broadcast on KLAC (AM 570) or one of its sister iHeartMedia stations. Each football and men's basketball game will have a pregame and postgame show. The Bruins' football pregame show will be extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, while the postgame show will be extended from 30 minutes to one hour. The Bruins kick off the 2018 football season this Saturday by hosting Cincinnati at the Rose Bowl Stadium, (4:00 p.m. | TV: ESPN, Radio: AM 1150).

"We are thrilled to be continuing our relationship as the home of the UCLA Bruins," said Don Martin, SVP Sports Programming for iHeart Los Angeles/am570 LA Sports.

Returning behind the mic for the 2018 football season will be Josh Lewin (play-by-play), and former UCLA quarterbacks Matt Stevens (analyst) and Wayne Cook (sideline reporter). Calling the action for the 2018-19 men's basketball season will be Lewin and former UCLA basketball standout Tracy Murray (analyst).

In addition to the extension with am570 LA Sports, UCLA and IMG College have agreed to terms with Entercom Communications on an agreement to simulcast a significant number of UCLA football and men's basketball games on 97.3 THE FAN in San Diego, home to a large population of UCLA alumni and fans. 97.3 THE FAN, San Diego's only 24/7, all-sports FM station serves as the flagship home for the San Diego Padres. It will carry UCLA Football and men's basketball games that do not conflict with Padres games.

The Bruin Insider Show, UCLA's weekly radio program that features all things Bruin Athletics, kicks off another year on Tuesday evening, this time with an updated talk-focused format. This year, Bryan Fenley, who hosted the show solo last year, will be joined by co-host Nick Koop. During football season, the pair will be joined by Cook for football-specific analysis of the previous game and a preview of the next.

Koop is entering his third year as a broadcaster and public address announcer in Southern California and UCLA. He calls Bruin men's and women's soccer games and has filled in on men's and women's basketball and softball broadcasts. He also has served as a public address announcer for UCLA indoor volleyball, beach volleyball and baseball. Koop came to Los Angeles from Boston, where he called a variety of sports at Harvard University for the Ivy League Network and at Boston University for the Patriot League Network. His play-by-play work has been seen on ESPN3 and the New England Sports Network. Nick is a native of Newcastle, Calif., and graduated from Boston University in 2014.

The hour-long Bruin Insider Show returns to the Plateia Restaurant inside the Luskin Conference Center. Each week, it will stream live online at ucla.leanplayer.com at 5:00 p.m. PT, and air on the radio on either AM 570 or AM 1150, most often at 7:00 p.m. PT. Tomorrow's episode will air on AM 570 following the Dodgers game and postgame show (approx. 9:30 p.m.). Fans also will be able to listen online at a later date.
