Junior Kyla Ross of the UCLA gymnastics team has been named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
Ross won the all-around and two events in the Bruins' season-opening 197.250-195.700 victory over No. 11 Nebraska on Friday. Ross recorded career-high marks of 9.975 on vault and 9.950 on floor to win those events, receiving a perfect 10 from one judge on each event. She performed a new, upgraded vault - a Yurchenko 1.5 – for the first time in her career and stuck it cold. Ross' all-around score of 39.650 was the highest by a Bruin in a season opener in 15 years and her third-best all-around score in her career. UCLA's team score of 197.250 was its highest in a season opener in 14 years.
This is Ross's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week award this season and sixth of her career.
