SAN FRANCISCO - Four Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 Conference Teams on Wednesday, as senior Cole Madey earned Second Team honors, sophomores Devon Bling and Eddy Lai picked up Honorable Mention accolades and Sean Maruyama was recognized on the All-Freshman Team.
Madey has recorded All-Pac-12 honors every season, getting named All-Pac-12 Freshman in his first year, All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention as a sophomore and now All-Pac-12 Second Team in back-to-back campaigns. Bling was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team last season, while Lai and Maruyama pick up their first conference awards.
Madey is one of the hottest golfers in the conference heading into NCAA Regionals, having finished third (Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship, -5, 279), tied for eighth (ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, -3, 210) and first (Wyoming Cowboy Classic, -13, 203) in his last three tournaments. Madey has been under par in 18 of his 33 rounds, including 12 of his last 14. All of his Top 10s this season have come in April, as he also has three other Top 20 showings. Of his 18 under-par rounds, 11 are in the 60s, including six of them in his round twos, where he has a combined score of 10-under this season.
Bling has had quite an April tying for second at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational (-11, 202), placing sixth at the Pac-12 Championship (-2, 282) and making the cut at The Masters, one of four amateurs to do so. Bling is second to Madey (71.3) in scoring average at 71.6, recording three Top 10s (T-10 at Southwestern Invitational) and four Top 20s. Of his 11 under-par rounds, six have been in the 60s, including a pair of 5-under 66s this season.
Lai has three Top 10s and six Top 20s on the season, tying for sixth at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (-7, 209) and tying for seventh at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship (-1, 283). Lai has 15 under-par rounds, including eight in the 60s. He is a combined 3-under in his third rounds, including 11-under in his last four third rounds.
Maruyama has a pair of Top 10s and three finishes inside the top 20, recording five under-par rounds and four of them in the 60s. He tied for fourth at the Southwestern Invitational (-3, 213) and tied for seventh at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational (-7, 206), where he shot a season-low, 6-under 65 in his opening round.
